Information:Taigh Sarah – many of her family died of TB and a deputation of local crofters persuaded her to abandon her house and they promised to build a new one for down by the shore, at a place called Am Bòidhegeir, for her and her one remaining son, Niall Bhòidhegeir. Sarah was a consummate housewife. His family in Glasgow was often sent hens through the post at New Year. Their feet were tied together, brown paper was wrapped around their heads and a label was tied round their necks. The postman delivered them like that. Sometimes there were as many as five hanging up in the kitchen. Of course there were no fridges then and you had to eat them as quickly as possible. Sarah’s hens always came beautifully plucked with their wings skewered - Alasdair Sinclair, Brock.
