Information:Mairi Nèill (MacLean), who lived on the house site beside Mairi the nurse’s house in Ruaig, was dying from face cancer, and it was said you could hear her cries all over Ruaig. The only one who would nurse her was Anna Mhòr, “a big tough woman with four children.” Dr Buchanan told his aunt that there were a number of “holy willies” from Tiree who would be surprised, when they got to the pearly gates [heaven] that Anna Mhòr was there before them! The last loom on Tiree was in Anna Mhòr’s house. Duncan Grant, Ruaig, 6/2003.
