Information:‘Brady’ was a huge man. It was said he could lift a cargo hatch cover on his own, when it would normally take four men to lift one. Neil Tais MacDonald, Balevulllin, 3/2013 (born 1919)
John MacKinnon, Balemartine, was known as ‘Brady’. He was an enormous man and was at sea most of his life. One trip was as a bosun on a passenger-cargo boat. He was hosing down the deck when the jet of water caught a lady passenger who was wearing a long white dress. She was furious and they ended up arguing, ending up with Brady telling her to “Go to hell!” She turned and went straight to the bridge, where she told the captain what had happened, telling him something had to be done. The captain sent for Brady and told him he would have to apologise, or it looked as though she would make trouble with head office. Brady went down on deck and approached the lady. “The captain says you don’t have to go to hell anymore!” he said. John Fletcher, Balemartine, 9/2009
