Map Reference: Hynish 99
Name Type: shore
Meaning: The pool at Rùmadal
A large fishing rock at the end of ScG Lag na Cleite 'the hollow of the hill', or Happy Valley. The south-west facing beach ‘growls’ in a swell, a weather sign heard around the south-west of the island that is still used today foretelling a storm.
Possibly OI rómr 'voice, shouting' (CV, 502)
Unusually for Tiree the generic ON dalr ‘valley’ is used here in the true sense of the word. This name has transferred from ScG Lag na Cleite ‘the hollow of the rounded hill’ now often known by an English name, Happy Valley. It stands in a reciprocating pair with the next valley to the north Diùbadal, ON Djúpadalr ‘the deep valley’.
