Meaning: ON urð (genitive urðar) ‘a heap of stones on the sea beach’ (CV, 657), with ON vík ‘bay’. This compound name probably derives from the simplex name of this part of the headland: Urð (see *Urdha below). ON vík can rarely > [-vag] as 'a back-formation from genitive and dative forms' (see Meavig in Oftedal 209, 30).
