Information: Before the Act of Union in 1707 it was the responsibility of the landowner to provide ferries and inns on their land for travellers. There was such a ferry service from Caolas to Coll run by the MacArthurs. There may be a connection with Caileach an Toll, whose house lay under the present house on Mullach nan Ceall. Donald Kennedy, Port Ban and John Archie MacLean, Croish, remember the ruins of her house - Hector MacPhail, Ruaig.
