Township: An Àird a Deas,Caolas

Map Reference: Ardeas 29

Name Type: sea

Meaning: There are at least two possible reconstructions for the specific:
• ON kríkr, a side-form of krókr ‘corner or bend, often used at boundaries or for remote places’ (Berit Sandnes, pers. comm.), with ON st?ðull ‘milking place’
• Male ON personal name Kraki or Krákr followed by the genitive morpheme /s/ (see *Creagascail, Macniven 2015, 143), with ON dalr ‘valley or piece of ground’. This is less likely because of the quality of the initial vowel and the medial fricative /ch/
There is a Krekedalen in Balestrand (NG); Kriken, Krikkeslaatten, Krekke and Krekvik are farm names in Norway (OR).

Other Forms: Creachasdal Beag - ONB p 124, with Crachisdale crossed out.
